Who in the UAE needs a Canadian visitor visa?
UAE residence is different from UAE citizenship. Indian ordinary-passport holders generally need a Canadian visitor visa, including when they live or work in the UAE. Other foreign nationals must check their own nationality and circumstances.
UAE citizens travelling on UAE passports are generally visa-exempt for visits and normally need an eTA when flying to Canada. This visitor-visa service is therefore aimed at visa-required foreign nationals in the UAE, especially Indians on temporary employment/residence status. Exceptions apply, including for people with Canadian or U.S. permanent resident status.

Working in the UAE on temporary status? Review your full situation.
Stable employment, genuine savings and a realistic travel budget can help explain how you will pay for your visit. There is no single salary figure that guarantees a regular Canadian visitor visa. The money needed depends on the proposed stay and accommodation arrangements. Employment, family, home and financial ties can also help explain your plans to return.
For Indian nationals & other expats in the UAE
Review your country-of-nationality passport, the type and validity of your UAE immigration status, reason for travel, employment or business commitments and how the trip will be funded. Explain your ties outside Canada and your plans after the visit. Temporary UAE status does not, on its own, establish Canadian visitor eligibility.
For relatives living in Canada
You can explain your relationship, why the visit is planned, where your relative will stay and any genuine support you will provide. Your invitation or income does not replace the applicant’s own eligibility assessment.
Documents worth discussing at your consultation
- Your country-of-nationality passport, UAE employment/residence visa or other status documents, their expiry dates and relevant immigration history.
- Employer letter describing employment, salary and contact details, with genuine approved leave or return-to-work arrangements where relevant.
- Bank records showing available funds and their financial history, with explanations where needed.
- A reasonable visit plan, accommodation arrangements and estimated costs.
- If visiting family: relationship evidence, an invitation and relevant host information.
- Previous Canadian or other visa refusals and the reasons given.
This is a preparation list, not a universal application checklist. Follow the current IRCC instructions and the document requirements generated for your situation.
Inviting an Indian or other foreign-national relative from the UAE
An invitation should truthfully explain who is inviting whom, the relationship, visit purpose, planned duration, accommodation and payment arrangements. IRCC may request an invitation letter, but a letter does not guarantee a visa. If a Canadian relative offers financial support, explain what they will cover and provide appropriate evidence. Do not describe a temporary visit as a guaranteed pathway to work or permanent residence.
Questions from Indian nationals & other expats in the UAE
Does my UAE visa or Emirates ID determine my Canadian entry requirements?
A UAE visa or Emirates ID is not a Canadian visa. Canadian travel-document requirements depend on your passport, nationality, travel method and other circumstances. Use IRCC’s official visa/eTA checker with your actual nationality before choosing an application.
What if my UAE status is temporary or expires soon?
Bring your current UAE status documents and expiry dates to the consultation. Your lawful status, employment, any relevant renewal evidence and your intended destination after the Canadian visit should be reviewed together. Do not assume Canadian approval or permission to re-enter the UAE.
Can I apply without relatives in Canada?
A relative in Canada is not a universal requirement for a visitor visa. A genuine tourism visit may be considered when the applicant meets the applicable requirements and supports the proposed trip.
Will a high salary or strong bank balance guarantee approval?
No. Financial evidence is one part of the assessment. A large balance alone does not establish a genuine temporary visit or that all requirements are met.
Can I work in Canada with a visitor visa?
A visitor visa does not, by itself, authorize employment in Canada. If your goal is work or permanent residence, ask about the appropriate requirements separately.
